第一，要有先创业后赚钱的意识。古今中外，成功的老板们很少是因为立志赚大钱而创业成功的，他们多半是因为心中隐隐约约有一个理想要实现，或是特别对某一方面有热忱，通过创业将它实现。这样的创业动机，比较能够持久，能帮助创业者熬过各种难关，努力坚持下去。那些一心一意只想赚钱的创业者，很可能犯“短视近利”的毛病，无法兼顾其他经营要点，导致失败。

第二，要集中优势，以专取胜。个人创业者实力较弱，资金有限，往往无法像大投资者那样提高多元化经营来分散风险，但可以集中自身优势，通过选择能够发挥自身长处的市场机会进行专业化经营，提供自己擅长生产和经营的产品和服务，提高产品的竞争能力，切忌一哄而起，正像在战场上全面出击，不如集中优势兵力打歼灭战;在整体市场上到处开花，不如集中力量打入目标市场，进行重点投资，发展专业特色产品，更能提高知名度和市场占有率。

第三，从小开始逐步升级。初学游泳的人必须先到浅水区多次练习，熟练后才能到大江大河里去享受搏浪击流的乐趣而不至于有溺水的危险。创业也是这样，瞄准某个项目时最好是适量介入，以较少的投资来了解认识市场，等到自认为确实有把握时，再大举投入，放手一搏。不少雄心勃勃的投资者初涉商海，过于自信，在并不了解市场规律时就贸然倾囊而入口，殊不知商海风高浪急，呛几口水事小，上不了岸事大，利润菲薄，要知道“船小好掉头”，即使出现失误，也还有挽回的机会。要是在不明行情，不辨大势之际就“全体总动员”，一旦出现不愿看见的局面，岂不是败得很惨?因此，想当老板者在进行项目投资时应从小开始，有十二分把握再全线介入，谋取最大收益。“从小开始，逐步升级”是一条稳妥而明智的创业之道。

第四，不要一窝蜂地去抢热门生意。行业的选择不仅决定了你赚不赚钱，更重要的是决定你后半生过得快不快乐。有人说：要把工作当做毕生的志向，更何况是自行创业，当然要选择自己有兴趣，而且最适合自己专长的行业。千万不要人云亦云，尽挑一些目前最流行或最赚钱的行业，没有经过任何评估就一头栽入。要知道，那些目前最流行或最赚钱的行业，往往市场已经饱和，就算还有一点空间，利润也一定不如那些早期进入市场的人。

传说有一位商人，带着两袋大蒜长途跋涉到了阿拉伯地区。那儿的人从来没有见过大蒜，他们想不到世界上还有这么味道好的东西，因此他们用当地最热情的方式款待了这位精明的商人，临别时给他两袋金子作为酬谢。另一位商人听到这个消息不禁为之一动，他想：大葱的味道不也与大蒜一样好吗?于是，他带着两袋大葱长途跋涉到了那个地方。那里的人们同样没见过大葱，甚至觉得大葱的味道比大蒜更好。他们更加盛情地款待了商人，并且一致认为，用金子远不能表达他们对远道而来的客人的谢意。经过再三商讨，他们决定赠予这位商人两袋大蒜。东施效颦，步人后尘，得到的只能是“大蒜 ”而不是金子。所以，不要选择最热门的行业，应该选择最适合自己，并且最有潜力的行业。
